In Honor Of National Tequila Day: What’s Your Favorite Tequila Drink?

It should be a rule that if you're going to have a National Holiday dedicated to a particular alcohol, it should always fall on the Friday!

If cocktails are your bag, than 2020 has at least one win for you, as today--a Friday--is National Tequila Day!

And I bet, if you wanted to hit any one of your favorite local Mexican restaurants (yeah, I'm looking at you, Las Palapas and Tacorita and Margaritas, Miguel's and Pepinos), someone there would gladly make you your favorite Tequila Drink! If you're lucky, they may even tell you a little about the history of Tequila. For instance, according to the website cuervo.com:

"REAL TEQUILA CAN ONLY BE PRODUCED IN FIVE SPECIFIC REGIONS IN MEXICO.

Tequila received a Designation of Origin (appellation de controlee) in 1974. It’s the same as an appellation for Bordeaux, Bourbon or Cognac. The Mexican federal government has established strict requirements governing tequila production."

It's also pretty impressive that each Agave plant that produces this "liquid gold" as it's called can take over a decade to mature, and has to be harvested in a very specific and delicate way.

But, if you're wondering how this day got started (not that you need an excuse to imbibe, but it's always fun to have one!) the website nationalday.com had this to say on the matter:

"Not much can be found on who originated the holiday, what originated the holiday, and why it takes place on the dates it does. Perhaps the originators imbibed a little too much on their own supply to remember. Regardless, common zeitgeist rules that National Tequila Day takes place on July 24th in the United States, and the Mexican Senate just ruled in 2018 that their own occurs on the third Saturday of every March."

Like I said, I don't think anyone really cares about the why as much as they do the what: What Tequila drink will you be celebrating with today?
