Police are investigating after human remains were discovered Tuesday in Portland's Stroudwater neighborhood.

Police told the Portland Press Herald they were called to 1685 Congress Street, the Stroudwater area.

Officers arrived at about 1:40 p.m. and were met by an individual who took them into the woods, where the remains were located.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office is working to make a positive identification and determine a cause of death.
