Howdy Neighbor. Maine is in The Top Ten

What is that expression, "good fences make good neighbors?" True that. But it is not the same everywhere, and Maine is noted as one of the friendly states in America.

One would think that depended on one’s actual neighbors and where you live. Friendliness seems to be dialed up a notch when you leave the cities and get out yonder.

Proving that Sunny and 75 year round is where it’s at, Hawaii is at the very top of the list of friendliest states in America. Any idea what the other end of the spectrum looks like? How about Texas. They finished last meaning they are the least friendly state. So much for “Howdy Y’All”. Digest that for a minute.  New York or New Jersey is not even in the bottom 10 when it comes to least friendly.  That is crazy. Whadda think now, bub?

Maine scores 10^th friendliest. Any time on these type surveys when Maine is anywhere except right around the middle, my ears perk up and my eyes bug out. No matter which end of the survey scale we move to.

The reason we are in the Top 10 is not just that we acknowledge our neighbors when we see them, or include them when we have social events that make sense for them to want to be included, but things like neighbors welcoming them when they moved in push us upwards on the list.  And giving the neighbors a key to your house, just in case something were to happen.  Wouldn’t it be very neighborly if your neighbor saw you mowing the lawn and came over, handed you a liquid refreshment and told you to take a break? Okay, that’s crazy talk.

Only advice, if you happen to not know your neighbor’s name, go introduce yourself. We want Maine to stay in the Top Ten.
