No matter if you have requested it and are waiting for or have already delivered it, tracking where your absentee ballot is in the process of the voting process is important and easy to check on.

First of all, if you would like to request an absentee ballot, go to maine.gov to visit the 'Absentee Ballot Request' web page.  Here, Maine voters can start the process of requesting an absentee ballot, request an accessible ballot for those with disabilities or request an absentee ballot as a Uniformed Service or Overseas Voter (UOCAVA).

After the short process of requesting your absentee ballot (here's a quick guide in case you are working on this step), you can start checking to see where your request is in process by clicking on the 'Check the status of your absentee ballot' button on the 'Absentee Ballot Request' web page at Maine.gov.

Clicking that button takes you to a quick form that asks for your name, date of birth and which municipality, city or town you are registered to vote in.  Fill that out and click the 'continue' button.

Next, it will confirm your voter information that you filled into the last form and share your 'Absentee Ballot Status'.  Here's a screenshot of what this page looks like using the status of my ballot which was requested electronically, received by mail, filled out and brought back to my local municipality.

This highlighted part is relevant to your ballot status after requesting your ballot but prior to receiving your ballot.  Another way to say this is the status of your ballot before you actually get it in your mailbox.

The example above shows that my absentee ballot was electronically requested on September 17th, 2020, the form I filled out to request the absentee ballot was accepted, my ballot was issued by my local municipality on October 2nd, 2020 and my ballot was mailed to me by my municipality.

The highlighted section here is relevant to after filling out your ballot and sending it back to your municipality- which can be done in a variety of ways including mailing your ballot back, putting it in a ballot drop box or handing it to someone at your municipality.

The example above shows that my ballot was received by my municipality on October 5th, 2020, that I delivered the ballot to my municipality and that my ballot was accepted.

There you have it!  Keep track of your ballot to be sure you vote has been counted.  Contact your town office with any questions or our very own voting information webpage.

Happy voting!
