Here’s Where It’s ‘Ice Out’ On Maine Lakes Right Now
As spring begins on the calendar, Maine's cold weather is starting to turn. With that, we await the ice on Maine's rivers, ponds, and lakes to clear out and dissolve away as the warmer weather returns.
This is the time of year when we start keeping track of where the 'ice is out'. This term means being able to get across a body of water without being impeded by ice. This term doesn't mean there is no ice on a body of water but rather there is at least one avenue to be able to traverse a body of water from one bank to another without anything in the way.
The Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands keeps track of the lakes of Maine when it comes to their ice conditions and we checked out where things are at for the defrosting season.
