Dates are set for tours of a Bangor landmark. The Thomas Hill Standpipe will open to the public four times, oncer per-season, in 2023. Standpipe tours give visitors a rare opportunity to climb to the top of the historic structure for a stunning 360-degree view of Bangor, and beyond.
2023 Thomas Hill Standpipe Tours:
- May 17 - Spring Tour - 3-6 PM
- July 19 - Summer Tour - 4-8 PM
- October 4 - Fall Tour - 3-6 PM
- December 11 - Winter Tour - 3-6 PM
The tours are free of charge. It should be noted the standpipe is not handicap accessible, with 100 stairs leading to the promenade deck.

The standpipe was built in 1897 and is designated as a National Historic Landmark by the Maine Historic Preservation Commission. The standpipe's iron water tank holds 1,500,000 gallons of water.
