In honor of adopt a shelter pet day, we want to shine a light on all of our furever friends that we've adopted from a shelter and who we call a member of the family.

Here's Rizzo.

My family welcomed her into our home about a month ago from the Waterville shelter. Rizzo is 5 years old and come from a shelter in the South. Not sure where but her profile seemed to work really well from my family of five without any other pets in the house.

I have to admit, I have not had a dog since I was a kid and it was for a very brief period so, warming up to the idea of having the responsibility of a dog took about 10 years for me to be okay with.

I wasn't sure how a shelter pet would do with my family but once we met Rizzo and brought her home it almost seemed like I overthought the worries of bringing a dog, and frankly a shelter dog, into my home.

But, a month later, Rizzo has adjusted well. In fact, suspiciously well. In fact, tonight I was petting her saying to her how I can't believe what a good dog she is. I try to imagine the owner she had before must have been a very loving, responsible owner because Rizzo can do commands, listens (for the most part) and just loves companionship.

I am so thankful for this shelter pet experience and we wanted to share your fur babies that you are thankful for, too.
