Fancy Dresses & Fairy Godmothers: Check Out the ‘Cinderella Project’
It started out, many years ago, as a great way to clean out closets of those fancy but impractical dresses that a lot of people end up with, while also offering folks who may not have the funds to spend on a prom dress, a chance to pick a frock for free from the pile, and give it some new life.
Belfast's "Cinderella Project" has grown in over a decade, and thanks to the Waldo Community Action Program, better known as Waldo CAP, it's become an event unto itself!
According to the Wald CAP Facebook Page, the Mission of the Cinderella Project is to provide "free and fabulous prom gowns to Maine high school students and promote positive self-esteem and community volunteerism among teens."
"Waldo Community Action Partners is thrilled to host a masked-ball version of The Cinderella Project prom dress giveaway this year! Bring your mask, one friend, and get ready to choose among hundreds of beautiful gowns. Event is LGBTQ+ friendly with welcoming Fairy Godmothers present to help in dress selection. This event is open to any Maine high school student regardless of income."
The Cinderella Project Event will be taking place this weekend at the Wentworth Event Center. All students interested in checking out the Cinderella Project's selection of dresses need to make an appointment, as time slots are limited and going quickly. To register for one, click here.
Aside from the beautiful dresses to pick from, 3 lucky students will also have the opportunity to win a necklace and earring set donated by local jeweler, Coyote Moon.
