And it was followed by the demolition of the first of the houses at 30 Davis Court

Now this announcement from the City of Bangor Friday morning

J.E. Butler will be closing Davis Ct. for the week of 11-7-22 for building demolitions. Avoid this area and seek alternate routes.

Please call 951-3100 for any questions or concerns.

J.E. Butler is a demolition contractor based in Brewer, Maine.

The reason Davis Court needs to be closed to traffic is to complete the planned demolition of the remaining 3 buildings,  23, 24, 26 Davis Court.

The Bangor YMCA did not reveal what is next, but one can surmise that they wouldn’t have purchased all the buildings on the street without the expectation of fulfilling the  City of Bangor Economic Development Strategic Report which  supports the YMCA's potential expansion in a location near the city's downtown, if possible. (You can find the recommendation on page 29.)

"The YMCA's vision for its future and the activities it is planning to provide as part of its expansion will bring exactly the kinds of recreation and wellness amenities that many residents feel are missing," reads the April 11 report.

"An expanded, upgraded YMCA would be a tremendous asset to the community and provide assets that will be critical to improving its livability."

The recommendation is one of many in the report, prepared by Better City, an economic development consulting firm in Utah.

Demolishing the remaining 3 properties on Davis Court is the next step and it happens beginning Monday the 7th.
