An 18-foot long boat was destroyed this morning when the SUV that was hauling it left the roadway and the trailer overturned.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the driver of the SUV wasn't injured when the vehicle went off I-95 in Pittsfield this morning, and the SUV didn't sustain any damage. Trooper Blake Conrad said the driver, 74-year-old Charles Foley of Parsonsfield may have fallen asleep. The vehicle drifted into the median, and the trailer came loose from the SUV and overturned.

Foley was headed to Eagle Lake for a fishing trip. The boat, a 2005 Stingray with an inboard-outboard motor, was demolished, as was the trailer. The passing lane of I-95 at mile 143 northbound was closed for about an hour while T&W Garage and Wrecker Service of Newport used their boom truck to remove the boat.

Blake says Foley won't face any charges in connection with the crash, but his fishing trip was ruined.
