A fundraiser for the Union Street Brick Church Warming Center includes a motorcycle ride, train ride, and a pig roast/barbecue in Unity.
This is a multi-faceted event that offers something for everyone. It all starts with a motorcycle ride, which will leave from the Bangor waterfront on Saturday, August 28. Anyone who wants to participate in a car or truck, (or a 'cage' as the motorcyclists call it) is more than welcome to do so. The plan is for 'Kickstands Up' at 11:30 AM sharp.
That procession of bikes and vehicles will ride for about an hour, ending up at 212 Depot Street in Unity. From there, participants can board the Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad, for a scenic ride through the woods in either an open-air observation car or a classic coach. The ride takes about an hour and will leave the depot at 1:30 PM.
After the ride, the party really begins. There will be a pig roast, with hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, and more under the tent at 212 Depot Street. In addition, music will be provided by the band Psalm 150. Folks can choose to take part: in the entire event from Bangor to Unity; or just the train ride and party; or just show up for the BBQ and music.
Tickets are $20 for the bike and/or train ride plus the barbecue, or $10 for just the meal and the band. They're available from any Brick Church member, or you can buy them at the church, at the corner of Union and Main Streets in Bangor, or call 989-5401. Don't delay, because the train tickets are going fast.
All the money raised by this event will benefit the warming center at the Union Street Brick Church in Bangor, which provides a safe place for Bangor's homeless population to get out of the cold in the winter months. People who spend much of the day on the streets of Bangor can stop by the warming center for a comfortable place to sit and a hot beverage, to give them a break from the chill and wind.
