Bangor Savings Bank is once again taking votes for non-profits to share more than $155,000 in grant money.

What is Community Matters More?

This is the 15th year the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation has held the Community Matters More event. The charitable arm of the company provides grants to a number of non-profits, to be used in any way they wish. It's a valuable resource for these charities that rely on grants and donations to operate.

How Do You Vote?

Taking part is easy. Just log onto the Bangor Savings Bank's Community Matters More website and cast your votes for up to 5 area non-profits. They have an extensive list of charities already on the ballot. But if you don't see your favorite non-profit there, that's okay. Just write them in. Then enlist as many people as you can to vote for them, as well. The charities with the most votes win. Voting is going on now and will be open through February 28th.

In order to vote, you have to be a resident of Maine or New Hampshire. Each person can vote once, for up to five different non-profits.

How Will the Money Be Distributed?

45 non-profits, in Maine and New Hampshire, will share more than $155,000 in grant money, if they receive the most votes. The money will be distributed, as follows, for each region.

  • 1st place - $5,000
  • 2nd place - $4,000
  • 3rd place - $3,000
  • 4th place - $1,000

This year, there's an extra-special bonus prize. In recognition of the 15th anniversary year, the top vote-getter overall will be awarded a $15,000 grant.
