Bangor Pride Brings Stationary Parade This Saturday
Coming this Saturday to the Hollywood Casino Racetrack is the Bangor Pride Parade. But, this year, it's going to look a little different.
All month long, Pride events have been happening all over the State but the main event of pride month here in the Bangor-area is the Pride Parade. This year they are going about it in a stationary way, meaning people can drive past exhibits put together by the parade participants.
The Saturday, the event starts at noon and is a free event for all. The event is being organized by Bangor Pride, Pride Across Maine and Health Equity Alliance.
There is also an option to take a trolley through the parade so you can see organizations' and businesses' floats made specially for the Pride parade.
The event is set up this way to avoid people gathering together and found that this is a way that could both keep the parade happening this year as well as have people still experience the pride of the parade.
Events on Saturday also include live musical and drag acts as a Grandstand Show. The performers all have Bangor area connections and will include:
- George 'Bodge' Loring, an Indian Island Native of the Penobscot and vocalist, guitarist and songwriter.
- Darcy Cook, musician and activist from Bangor.
- Mama Martini, Maine-based drag performer from Portland but got started at UMO and the Bangor area.
It is encouraged to check out the performances after the parade starting at 1 PM as well as to drive down to Downtown after the event to stop by the businesses that support the LGBTQ+ community.
