A transient faces a stalking charge after allegedly following a minor child at Abbot Square in Bangor on Sunday.

Brian McDonald, 46, was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.

McDonald recently moved to Bangor from out of state. Over the past couple weeks, McDonald is alleged to have made repeated attempts to contact the victim, according to police.

Police responded to 140 Harlow Street (Abbot Square) at approximately 12:40 p.m. to investigate a report from a local family saying their minor child was being followed by a man later identified as McDonald. WABI is identifying the victim as a 14-year-old girl.

Stalking is a Class D misdemeanor. Police say the charge against McDonald may be elevated because of his criminal history. McDonald has a prior stalking conviction in California, according to a news report.

McDonald is being held on $5,000 bail.
