Bangor Man Charged with Punching Officer, Trafficking Drugs

A Bangor man faces several charges after he allegedly punched a police officer in the face while attempting to evade arrest Friday afternoon.

Trevor Lyons, 36, was apprehended after two civilians intervened and helped the officer gain control of the suspect.

The altercation happened when an officer responded to 322 Stillwater Ave after receiving a report of an intoxicated man on a motorcycle at about 5:45 PM.

While talking with the officer, Lyons reportedly removed a handbag and a cell phone from the motorcycle and started walking away. The officer ordered Lyons to stop, but he did not. A struggle ensued, during which Lyons reportedly held onto the officer’s arm, and struck the officer in the face.

Police said the handbag contained bundles of cash totaling several thousand dollars, along with "suspected methamphetamine."

The arresting officer was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Lyons was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Monday evening.

Lyons faces charges including assault on an officer, unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs, operating after suspension, and refusing to submit to arrest.
