Bangor, Maine’s ‘The Nite Show’ Has An Iconic Final Guest
You might have heard of this guy...The final episode had a pretty major surprise!
A unique local television experience is coming to an end in May.
I remember being pretty depressed when my buddy Dan Cashman left his job here years ago. We had a fantastic working relationship, and friendship.
However, I knew he wanted to move on to other opportunities, and boy has he.
He was Press Secretary for Gov. John Baldacci, then he began a reboot of his local talk show, which is currently celebrating its 15th and final season on WABI TV-5.
The very idea of a locally based talk show in this day and age of streaming, thriving for 15 years, is a very impressive feat.
Since 2010, Dan has had an impressive array of guests, most of them with ties to Maine. Famous actors, musicians, politicians, and local personalities have made his show a success that regularly beats Saturday Night Live in its 11:30pm time slot.
All good things must come to an end. For The Nite Show, that end is now in sight. After 15 years, on Saturday, May 17th, The Nite Show will say "Goodnite" as it sails off into the TV sunset.
At a final taping last night, a surprise guest came out to much fanfare on the stage of the Gracie Theater, at Husson University. It was none other than late night legend, David Letterman.
To say this was a shock and honor for Danny, would be an understatement, Letterman is a hero to many (myself included) but to Cashman, it was like meeting one of The Beatles.
The episode featuring Letterman, will air on Sautrday, May 10th.
Till then, catch the last, full episodes of The Nite Show with Danny Cashman Saturday nights at 11:30 on WABI TV5/Bangor, Saturday nights after the FOX23 News at Ten on FOX23/Portland, Saturday nights at 11 on WWPI NBC16/Presque Isle, and late night Saturdays at 1 a.m. on WGME CBS13/Portland.
We will miss you, Danny!
