The Bangor Police Department says it's investigating a homicide after officers and members of the Bangor Fire Department found a man dead Wednesday inside an apartment on Second Street.

The death of Israel Lewis, 51, was ruled a homicide after an autopsy was conducted Thursday morning at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta, according to a news release from Detective Sgt. Brent Beaulieu of the Bangor Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division.

Police officers and firefighters discovered Lewis' body after the police department received a report of an unresponsive male inside an apartment at 40 Second Street Wednesday at 9:44 a.m.

A team of investigators and crime scene technicians assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the man's death.

Beaulieu says nothing investigators have learned so far indicates there's a threat to the public.

Police have released no information about a possible suspect and are urging anyone who may have information about the death to contact the Bangor Police Department.
