The normal Wednesday evening routine was interrupted in Downtown Bangor after a person called the police department just after 7pm saying there was a bomb in Pickering Square.

In order to establish a safe perimeter while they investigated the report police shut down Broad and Water Streets and Nocturnem Draft Haus, The New Waverly, and the 4:20 Shop.

Police saw a package near the public phone in the square and called in the explosives response team to investigate.

Bangor Police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey says the package did not turn out to be a bomb and the area was reopened around 9pm without further incident.

Police will continue to investigate the origin of the threatening phone call.
