Hey Mainers, you’ve carried her across the threshold, so this should be no biggie! Right?

The Annual North American Wife Carrying Championship at Sunday River, located at 15 South Ridge Road, in Newry, Maine, is a go, on Saturday, October 9th, from 10am-2pm. Celebrate all the fun of this crazy event, with activities for the whole family.

It’s such a nice surprise to see this fun event not cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns, and unlike last year, they will return to a head-to head matchup with two sets of competitors racing on an obstacle course style track.

You gotta love the Grand Prize for winning. The champs will receive the wife's weight in beer and five times her weight in cash. Not bad for a days work. Plus, the winners move on to Finland for the opportunity to become the world champs, next summer. The 2020 victors were "The Lovebirds" Olivia & Jerome Roehm, who finished with a winning time of 53 minutes.

The North American Wife Carrying Championship was founded in 1999 by Sunday River, and tasks couples with crossing a 278-yard obstacle course, over hurdles, through a watery mud pit, and up an unsteady sand hill. People travel from not only the state of Maine, but all over to compete. or to just watch the fun.

There is even a "Couples of Wife Carrying" movie, that features two couples competing for beer and glory at Sunday River. The film can be streaming at https://tubitv.com/

Check out the cool trailer for the film:

All participants must be at least 21 years of ages, and the cost is $70 per couple, but if you just want to go to enjoy the show, it is free. Registration is now open, so for more info on one of the most exciting events of the year, and Covid-19 protocols, check out:
