2021 Harlow Street Shooting Suspect Going to Prison for 7 Years

A man responsible for a shooting in 2021 outside a Harlow Street business in Bangor received his sentence this week.

Gaurionex Rafael Joaquin-Peguero, 29, of Roxbury, Massachusetts pleaded guilty on Tuesday to elevated aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and refusing to submit to arrest. He is sentenced to 18 years in prison with all but seven years suspended, followed by four years of probation.

Joaquin-Peguero was accused of shooting a person in an altercation outside a club at 190 Harlow Street in Bangor. In August of 2021, two Bangor police officers were a short distance from the club when they heard gunshots. They ran to the parking lot and found patrons running and ducking for cover, while a vehicle sped from the scene.

The officers called in the description of the vehicle, which was stopped a short time later. Joaquin-Peguero ran from the car before being apprehended by police. During this time, another man arrived at a local hospital's emergency room with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. An investigation into the incident revealed that a fight broke out among the patrons of the business and Joaquin-Peguero pulled out a gun.

The sentencing comes at a time when Bangor Police are investigating a similar incident at the same address. Officers were called to the parking lot last month to a report of gunshots. When they arrived, they learned that one person had suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and the perpetrators had fled the scene in a vehicle. So far, one of four suspects has been arrested.
