Woman Shot By Husband While Hunting In Aroostook County

Maine game wardens responded after a woman was hit in the leg by birdshot pellets while on a partridge hunt with her husband Tuesday morning in Aroostook County.

The incident occurred about 10 a.m. near Togue Pond in T15 R9 WELS, the Maine Warden Service said Tuesday evening.

Geraldine Botka, 67, of Rangeley, was struck by the pellets after her husband, Richard Botka, 72, fired at a partridge.

The man transported his wife to The Aroostook Medial Center in Presque Isle. She was treated and released after suffering non-life threatening injuries.

Wardens said the couple was not wearing hunter orange, which is not required by law during this portion of Maine’s hunting season.

The incident remains under investigation.
