Drum roll please!

Oxford Dictionaries' word of the year is 'Selfie.' If this doesn't show our addiction to social media, I don't know what will. In case you have no clue what a 'selfie' is, Oxford Dictionaries defines it as: '(n.) a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website.'

The word 'selfie' originates back to 2002 and was first seen on an Australian web forum. However, it doesn't matter when the word was coined or whether it sticks around. All that matters is that the use of the word has skyrocketed. Matter of fact, the use of the word is up 17,000% since 2012.

Another word that contended with 'selfie' for word of the year, Twerk. Thankfully (I guess) Twerk will remain as just an awful TV moment.
