A new launch date for The Evil Within means the nightmares are coming earlier than we expected.

CVG reports that Shinji Mikami's return to survival horror, The Evil Within, will be launching one week earlier than its scheduled Oct. 21 release date. Originally slated for a launch this August, Tango Gameworks wanted to tweak The Evil Within's gameplay. This new date was just announced at QuakeCon 2014 by Pete Hines, Bethesda's Vice President of Marketing. Hines confirmed to those in attendance that the game will be launching seven days ahead of schedule.

This change of date is most likely due to an attempt to get The Evil Within on shelves before the other heavy hitters of that month are launched, such as Battlefield Hardline, WWE 2K15, Sunset Overdrive, Assassin's Creed Unity and Evolve.

The Evil Within heralds Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami's return to survival horror when it launches on Oct. 14 for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
