Things are less than harmonious on Twitter for Normani Kordei, who's quit Twitter in light of what she's called a barrage of racist messages.

The Fifth Harmony member tweeted a message on Saturday (August 6) in which she described racist, hateful attacks that have compelled her to leave her account for dead. Though she noted she's got thick skin, she explained recent incidents — specifically those that had occurred over the preceding week — had become too much to handle.

"Over the past four years of being in the public eye I’ve learned to grow a thick skin to critics and those who may not like me,” Kordei wrote. “I’ve never been one to deny anyone of their opinions, but...I’ve been racially cyberbullied with tweets and pictures so horrific and racially charged that I can’t subject myself any longer to the hate."

"I’m not the first black female celebrity to deal with this and I’m sure I won’t be the last," she added. "I want to take this moment to say Love goes much further than hate in this world. Hiding behind a computer and putting people down, especially for the color of their skin doesn’t make you cool, it makes you a coward!"

Kordei also thanked Twitter for acting quickly when she alerted the company to the vitriol users had aimed at her.

In July, Ghostbusters comedian Leslie Jones described an equally troubling story in which dozens of users hurled racist epithets at her, seemingly out of nowhere. "Ok I have been called Apes, sent pics of their asses, even got a pic with semen on my face. I'm tryin to figure out what human means. I'm out," she tweeted. A supportive #LoveForLeslieJ hashtag manifested not long after.

Every one of Normani's Fifth Harmony bandmates responded to the wave of racism on Twitter.

"I am very sad to see my sister and her family hurt," Ally Brooke wrote. "Normani is like a sister to me and when I saw her mother crying because of things people were saying about her daughter and I found out what exactly it was that was disturbing her...I was appalled," said Lauren Jauregui.
