Uncle-Nephew Duo Arrested On Meth Charges

The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and Sanford police have arrested a teenager and his uncle and charged them with operating a meth lab.

Tanner Winship, 18, and his uncle, Herbert Winship, 40, both of Sanford, are accused of operating a meth lab at an apartment on Charles Street in Sanford, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release Tuesday.

Sanford police responded to the home Sunday after receiving a report of a noxious order coming from one of the units in the building.

The MDEA’s meth lab team responded as well and found evidence of a meth-making operation and a mason jar containing the drug, the release said. The team cleared the home early Monday morning.

A few hours later, police responded to an adjacent property on Grove Street after receiving a report of a suspicious duffel bag in the yard. Police said meth-making ingredients were discovered in the bag. Drug agents are now investigating whether the men were also responsible for the duffel bag.

The suspects were at the York County Jail Tuesday afternoon, being held in lieu of $15,000 bail.

The nephew was charged Monday. The older man was arrested Monday at a home in Lyman on unrelated charges for violating his probation. The meth charge was added Tuesday.

The incidents on Charles Street and Grove Street mark the 8th and 9th meth-related responses by the MDEA this year. The agency responded to 125 meth-related incidents in 2016.
