In my humble opinion, one of the most underrated gems in the greater Bangor area is the Orono Bog Boardwalk.

If you're looking for it, it's nestled into the Bangor City Forest. According to its Facebook Page:

"The Orono Bog Boardwalk is 4,200 feet long and is composed of 509 sections 8 feet long and 4 feet wide, plus connector bridging at turns. Seven interpretive stations plus an orientation kiosk educate Boardwalk visitors about the various habitats and wildlife present, as well as the geologic history of the Orono Bog. Benches every 200 feet provide visitors rest areas and are placed at wheelchair turnaround sections."

I've taken my kids there for years, as it's a relatively easy trek through some really interesting terrain.

There's always cool stuff to look at and you usually come across some cool little critters in their natural habitat.

The last time we went, we came across some wild rabbits.

But that pales in comparison to what one visitor named Molly crossed paths with on the Bogwalk recently!

"As she was walking off the BW with family/friends they heard a noise behind them. Thinking there was a person walking, they turned around to see the bear getting up on the BW where they had just walked. The bear stopped and looked at them for a few minutes and decided to walk out towards the Bog very causally."

I can't even imagine!

What's amazing to me is that Molly had the presence of mind to stop and snap a picture!

You better believe, if that had been me, I would have picked all four kids up (I don't care that one is 6'1" and weighs more than I do) and I would have run, as fast as I could, in the other direction--which I understand is likely the exact opposite of what I should do...but oh my gosh!

You've gotta love a good Maine adventure!
