If you were in Maine during the 70s and 80s, you may remember a locally produced game show on Maine's PBS station WCBB, channel 10. If you were a kid growing up in the 70s and 80s, you'll remember that as the station that had Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers Neighboorhood, and The Electric Company.

On weekends, my parents would sometimes watch So You Think You Know Maine, a local TV game show that is just what you'd expect. A question and answer game show that tests your knowledge of all things Maine.

The show was right out of the 70s and 80s and looked VERY Maine with hosts wearing flannel shirts and sporting beards. The set was wood paneling in the early days.

It was later switched to an even more rustic look, with windows behind the contestants, making it look like they were in a Maine winter cabin.

There were several hosts of So You Think You Know Maine during its run including Jeff Gable, who was the program manager for WCBB, Maine humorist Tim Sample, the late news reporter Dick Gosselin, and meteorologist "Altitude" Lou McNally.

The game was really fun to watch and often included younger contestants to see how well they knew Maine from what they had been taught in school.

So You Think You Know Maine even had its own board game.

Local entertainment programs like this are harder to come by these days. Currently Maine Public has the next best thing, High School Quiz Show, hosted by Todd Gutner which brings high school teams together in a single-elimination, academic bracket competition. It's not Maine centric though, which is something I enjoyed about So You Think You Know Maine.
