Why a Maine Kid is Running to School Every Morning
A local Maine dad began directing his son to run to school each morning, why? It was punishment. He shared the story on a local town Facebook page about it.
Some raised eyebrows at first, but after sharing the entire store, the comments turned from questionable to supportive.
Here’s why:
The dad explained, as per the post that his son was kicked off the bus for being disrespectful to a young girl. The dad chose to punish his son by making him run about a ½ a mile to school each day.
His unique consequence meant no bus ride, and it’s old-style parenting, but he knows his child. He knows he’s athletic and fit and able to run to school.

He also knows that a punishment like this is exactly what his son needed to learn his lesson saying,
"My son was kicked off the bus for being disrespectful to a little girl. Maybe this isn’t a big deal for some of you but for me it’s everything. I’m not in the process of raising a person, I’m raising a Man and you cannot be a man and be disrespectful to women at the same time. every boy needs to learn this lesson. And every kid learns it in a different way."
He also drives directly behind him, following him the entire way, just to make sure he’s safe and doing what he’s supposed to do.

What do you think about this parenting strategy?
This is a lesson that seems to stick and work for him. Ironically enough the hardest part now is to get him to stop running because he likes it so much.
So pretty much what started as a consequence has grown into something enjoyable for the child, but hopefully throughout this, he was able to learn his lesson.
