Hancock County Man Wins $10,000 from Publishers Clearing House [PHOTOS]
Talk about an amazing afternoon, tagging along with Howie Guja from Publishers Clearing House to deliver a check for $10,000 to Scott Sepper from Hancock County!
The back story is pretty incredible as to how I was able to spend my day with Howard and his cameraman.
It started 2 days ago with a email from Howie
Now I had no idea if this was real or not, so I called Howie, and Googled him. Once he assured me this was legitimate I told him that I would meet them in Bucksport.
Howie and his cameraman flew up to Bangor from Long Island this morning, and picked up the giant check in Holden and then drove to Bucksport. As an aside, how great would it to have Howie's job to travel around the country and hand out giant checks!
When we met at the Bucksport Hannaford, he told me that they had just recently started a program where the go into a local grocery store and pick someone at random and buy their groceries!
So in we went. And then Howie asked me to pick the person who would receive free groceries. After a quick scan near the register we found Christopher and Robin, and Howie asked them if he could buy their groceries? They agreed, Howie whipped out his credit card and paid their grocery bill of $135.00!
After we traveled to hopefully find Scott at his home. Now Howie and the folks from the Publishers Clearing House could be private detectives. They knew where the house was, looked like from Google Street View, and had Facebooked Scott and his wife Debbie Callahan and knew that she was a retired teacher from Mount View High School and an author!
Now remember, they never notify the winner ahead of time. So we were taking a chance, and 4 cars pulled into the yard. Debbie came out, and I jokingly said to David Simpson from Fox 22/WVII we are in Downeast Maine, we are liable to be met with a rifle!
Luckily that wasn't the case and Howie went up to Debbie, and explained who we were, and that we needed to give the check to Scott.
Scott was working at the Hancock County-Bar Harbor Airport, so off we went to surprise Scott. Howie had asked Debbie not to tell him the reason we were coming, and not to call him until we were there. She told him a "white lie" that there was something wrong with her car, to get him out of the building, and that's when he saw the giant check with his name on it!
It truly was an amazing afternoon to be part of this gift-giving, especially so near Christmas!
The lesson I learned? You can't win if you don't play! So are you ready to win a billion dollars in Powerball?
