Maine Police are investigating two fatal pedestrian crashes on Tuesday involving a vehicle in one community, and a train in the other.

The First Incident Involved a Vehicle That Was Not Immediately Located

In the first incident, Falmouth Police received a call at approximately 3:00 Tuesday afternoon of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle near 106 Gray Road. When officers arrived, they found a deceased male on the side of the road. His name has not been released.

The motor vehicle that struck the man was not at the scene and the driver had not identified themselves to police. At around 5:30, police found the motor vehicle and driver in a parking lot, about a half-mile from the crash scene. So far, no charges have been filed.

In a later Incident, a Portland Man Was Struck By a Train

Brett Staples, 34, of Portland died of injuries sustained when he was struck by a train near Morrils Corner in Portland at approximately 8:00 Tuesday night. Staples was initially transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he died of his injuries. Police have not commented on why Staples was on or near the tracks before the crash.

Both Police Departments Hope to Hear From Witnesses to the Crash

The Falmouth incident remains under investigation. The Falmouth Police Department asks anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information about the incident to call them at 207-781-2300.

Amtrak and the Portland Police Department are investigating that incident; no charges have been filed. Anyone who witnessed the crash or thinks they may have information pertinent to this investigation is encouraged to call Portland Police at 207-874-8532 or 207-874-8575.
