Maine Manslaughter Trial for the Death of a 22-Month-Old Owls Head Child
Azaiyh Scott of Owls Head was arrested in New Orleans, Louisiana, in June 2024 and charged with manslaughter for the death of 22-month-old Quayshawn Wilson of Owls Head.
The charges stemmed from an incident that began at approximately 7:30 p.m. on May 29, 2024, when Thomaston Police and Rescue were called to Walmart for a report of a child who wasn't breathing.
Wilson was taken to Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where he was pronounced deceased.
The Chief Medical Examiner determined that Quayshawn died of blunt force trauma, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Toddler's Unexplained Bruises at the Center of a Maine Manslaughter Trial
Scott is originally from Louisiana, but had moved to Maine a short time before Quayshawn's death. He was living with his girlfriend and their child.
Scott and the child's mother moved back to Louisiana after Quayshawn died. He was returned to Maine after the child's death.

The Press Herald reports that a child abuse pediatrician testified at Scott's trial that bruising on the child's stomach was a 'red flag' for a non-accidental injury.
While prosecutors presented no evidence to prove Scott had injured Quayshawn, they said he was the only one with the child all afternoon before his death.
Scott's attorney suggested the toddler's bruises may have been the result of CPR administered by rescue workers.
