This spot in our Pine Tree State was named one of the best places for retirement in the country, according to a recent report.

WalletHub compared 182 U.S. cities to determine the best places to retire, evaluating each city across affordability, activities, quality of life, and health care.

The rankings were based on 45 weighted metrics, with a focus on how well retirees living on a fixed income could manage expenses and maintain their quality of life.

Portland ranked 30th overall, placing 134th for affordability, 22nd for activities, 47th for quality of life and 32nd for health care.

The city also tied for the second-highest annual cost of in-home services in the country.

The top three cities in the report are all in Florida, with Orlando ranking first, Miami second and Tampa third.

Portland was the highest-ranked city in New England, making it the region’s top-rated retirement destination in the ranking.

And there you have it! While Portland placed 30th nationally, it finished ahead of every other New England city included in the report.
