A man who survived a fire at his home in Prospect has died in a fire at the Verona Island home where he was staying.

Where and When Was the Second Fire?

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says the fire at 322 East Side Road on Verona Island was called in at approximately 6:45 Wednesday night. Crews from several towns responded to the mobile home.

Who Was the Victim?

Three people were in the residence at the time of the fire. Two people, including the homeowner, were able to safely escape the flames. The third person, 68-year-old Terrance Leach of Prospect, did not survive. He had been a guest in the residence since fire consumed his home on Route 1 in Prospect the day before, on March 14th.

Do Officials Have Any Idea About What Caused the Fires?

Mr. Leach's body was taken for an autopsy, but officials say there was no indication of foul play. The cause of the Verona Island fire is still under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office. Investigators ruled the Prospect fire accidental. Moss says Leach was smoking while using a home oxygen tank when that fire broke out.
