A school bus carrying students and another vehicle were involved in a crash on Route 1A on Thursday.

Three high school students and one middle school student were on the bus at the time of the crash.

Officials say all the students were assessed at the scene, and a couple of them were sent to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Ellsworth Superintendent Amy Boles says the students received only minor injuries.

According to the Ellsworth American, both the bus driver and the driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Boles says the bus driver was treated and released and is resting at home.

The bus was being used for the after school program, at the time of the accident that happened on the Bangor Road, otherwise known as Route 1A, near the intersection with Cove Way.

Officials have not released any information about the details of the crash that involved the school bus and a second vehicle. The names of the two drivers have also not been released, at this time.

Ellsworth, Maine School Superintendent Urges Drivers to Use Caution Around Buses

Ellsworth Superintendent Amy Boles let community members know, in a letter to parents that the school system is working with the police.

The Ellsworth Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash, including a reconstruction of the scene, and we are cooperating fully with detectives as that process continues.

This crash happened a week after Superintendent Boles sent a letter to the greater Ellsworth community, urging drivers to use extra caution around school buses after two student deaths in other parts of the state.

This crash remains under investigation.
