A 17-year-old from Hermon is sentenced to community service and will lose his license temporarily after a fatal car accident in Corinna.

Because of his age, officials haven't released the name of the teen who failed to yield at the intersection of the Amsden Road and Route 7 in September of 2016. His pickup truck struck a Jeep driven by 56-year-old James Maloney of Dover-Foxcroft. Maloney was killed in that crash and his wife, Susan Boudreau-Maloney, was injured.

The teen will lose his license for 18 months, as a result of that crash, on a civil charge of a motor vehicle violation resulting in death. In addition, he's ordered to serve 100 hours of community service at a local fire department, at the request of the victim's family.

WABI-TV reports the Assistant District Attorney read a statement in court that said no alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident, or speed or recklessness. But pointed out that these kinds of accidents are a huge concern in Maine. The teen's defense attorney said that his client stepped up and took responsibility for his actions, and is looking forward to atoning for them.
