Forecasters are calling for nearly 3 inches of rain for much of Maine.

The National Weather Service is warning of thunderstorms and soaking rain for much of Maine, Thursday. Over two-and-a-half inches of rain is expected from the coast, north to Millinocket. A cold front pushing through the state will bring rain throughout the afternoon, along with possible thunderstorms. The heaviest rain is expected late day into the overnight hours.

Rain will taper off throughout the morning hours, Friday. Coastal areas may also see ocean splash-over, as Hurricane Larry churns well off the coast of Maine. Friday night, seas will peak at 5-8 feet.
