Could Former Red Sox Outfielder Johnny Damon Be Playing in Portland, Maine, This Summer?
Red Sox fans have memories of 2004 when the Red Sox won the World Series for the first time since in 1918. Almost everyone watching the game wasn't even born the last time that the Red Sox won the World Series. It was a moment that will long be remembered.
This was the dream team with Red Sox greats like Pedro Martinez, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Jason Varitek, and Johnny Damon.
It's been eleven years since Johnny Damon retired after breaking our hearts by signing with the Yankees and then bouncing around to several other teams before he retired, but believe it or not, he's back playing baseball and might even make an appearance at Hadlock Field.
Damon recently made his debut with the Savanah Bananas. The best way to describe this baseball team is similar to the Harlem Globetrotters. The game isn't as important as the fun and the Bananas have their own rules for what they call "Banana Ball."
Check out a clip of Johnny Damon's debut with the Savanah Bananas back in February.
The Savanah Bananas are coming to Portland to play at Hadlock Field on Friday, August 18 and Saturday, August 19. The question is, will Johnny Damon be with them?
As of this writing, he hasn't been added to the official roster on the Savanah Bananas website, so was his appearance a one-time thing, or is he going to tour with the team this summer? Let's hope it's the latter. By the looks of the clip above, he seems a bit out of practice, but it's all about the fun right?
