Charmed is one of those past properties always swirling new rumors of a possible reboot, but at long last, The CW may have conjured something real. The Halliwell sisters may not be back, but we might see a prequel version of the series with a Charmed reboot.

Per Entertainment Weekly, just as The Carrie Diaries took Sex and the City fans to an earlier portion of its characters’ histories, so too would a new Charmed reboot take us back to 1976. The new version will be written by Jane the Virgin alum Jessica O’Toole, Amy Rardin and Jennie Snyder.

The original San Francisco-set series ran from 1998 to 2006, featuring Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty as three sibling witches, and a number of early turns for stars like Kaley Cuoco, Norman Reedus, Amy Adams, Ron Perlman and more. As a prequel, it’s unlikely the original cast would be involved.

A CW Charmed reboot might make more sense than more recent rumors placing the effort at CBS, but is an updated version good news or bad for fans?
