Just minutes into the season opener, Boston Celtics forward Gordon Hayward fractured his ankle. The gruesome injury made the loss to Cleveland, 102-99, seem very much secondary.

It happened as he went up for an alley-oop play, he banged into Lebron and landed off balanced and fractured his left ankle. He was  taken off the floor in Cleveland on a stretcher.

Players on both teams were in shock to see the injury.

The Celtics got down by 18 points only to come back and have a lead late in the the game.

Then Lebron took over down the stretch. He finished with 29 points.

The Celtics had two three point shots in the final seconds to tie the game but neither would fall in.

Jaylen Brown led the C's with 25 points. Kyrie Irving had 22 points and 10 rebounds.

But the injury to Hayward was all anyone could think about.
