Alleged Hit And Run Driver Arrested

A Sanford man faces charges in connection with a hit and run accident in which a Massachusetts man was killed while walking on a sidewalk in Maine.

According to the Portland Press Herald, 41-year-old William George is charged with Operating After License Suspension and Accident Involving Death.

The incident happened on the 4th of July in the town of Limerick. Police say 47-year-old John Mullin of Wilmington, Massachusetts was walking on a sidewalk  on Route 11 when a vehicle struck him.  The vehicle took off and Mullin was found by deputies lying unconscious in the road.He later died from his injuries.

More charges are expected in this case.George is being held on $1,000 cash bail and is expected to make his first court appearance on Friday.
