Over the past year and a half, Maine teachers and school systems have really had their work cut out for them as the COVID-19 pandemic has created turmoil in a variety of areas.

Maine teachers and educators have really stepped up their game dealing with remote learning, masks in classrooms, and schedules that can change at a moment's notice.  It's a tough gig, so it's nice to recognize someone who can do it with a smile.

Today, the Maine Department of Education Teacher's Program has named Kelsey Stoyanova, an 8th-grade language arts teacher at the Reeds Brook Middle School in Hampden the 2022 Maine Teacher of the Year.

To make it even more special the honor was announced in front of her coworkers and students during a surprise event today at Reeds Brook Middle School, according to the Maine Department of Education.  The Reeds Brook Middle School is part of RSU 22.

How cool that must have been!

Earlier this year our brand new Teacher of the Year was selected from a pool of hundreds of Maine teachers, and she was then eventually named one of three state finalists before officially becoming the 2022 Maine Teacher of the Year.

Kelsey Stoyanova is also currently working towards her Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Maine.

"It is because of our stories and the strength we have as a whole, the drive to do what’s best for students and the resilience of our students that education in Maine should be celebrated today and every day,” said Stoyanova.
