Zombie Movie To Be Filmed in Portland
If you visit Portland this summer don't mind the car crashing and zombie hordes.
Filmmaker Kyle Rankin is coming home to Maine to film his next project. Rankin starts filming his romantic comedy in several locations in Portland's Old Port today. Most of the filming will be done in private homes and businesses. The public will get a chance to see his work June 16th however.
That day Rankin plans to film India Street full of zombies and car crashes. Other locations include Andy’s Old Port Pub, Coffee by Design, GoBerry Yogurt and the Western Promenade park. He plans to film in Maine for 18 days, wrapping up in early July.
The film is called 'Night of the Living Deb.' It's a romantic comedy set in the throes of the zombie apocalypse. The film is starring Michael Cassidy of the TBS show 'Men at Work.' Also on board is Ray Wise of the 90's show 'Twin Peaks.' He was also in the 1987 blockbuster 'Robocop' and has a recurring roll on 'How I Met Your Mother.'
Rankin is best known for winning Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Project Greenlight. The contest gave Rankin and another Maine filmmaker $2 million to fund a feature film. They would use the cash to film 'The Battle of Shaker Heights' staring Shia LaBeouf.
Unlike 'The Battle of Shaker Heights,' 'Night of the Living Deb' is 100% self-funded. Rankin's Kickstarter page has helped him collect over $100,000 for the film. His budget goal is $160,000.
'Night of the Living Deb' should be completed by August. It's undetermined whether the flick will go to film festivals, theaters, DVD, or just the internet.
