Zayn Malik delivered on his #RealMusic promise late last night (January 28), dropping his first official single as a solo artist. "Pillowtalk" delivers on its buzz, but Zayn knows he can't really let the music speak for itself just yet — especially considering the One Direction-related drama that preceded it.

Zayn sounds more relaxed this time around, more confident and (finally) in love with what he's attached his name to.

"I’m 100% behind it, so the people can see that and hear that, and that’s what you want when you listen to music. You want to feel connected to it," he said of his new single in an interview with BBC Radio 1. "You don't want to feel like the person’s lied to you. Not that I was lying, but those songs didn’t really fit my style of singing. "

Zayn continued, saying despite the odd ad-lib here and there, he was never content with the way he was instructed to sing in One Direction: "I wasn't really 100% confident in the way that I was singing back then, now I feel like I am."

More good news: He doesn't rule out the possibility of touring the future, though it depends on how well Zayn's upcoming Mind of Mine LP performs: "I'm hoping to give a few singles off it first, then go in with the album. I'll see what happens, see what people's feedback is. Then, if people want me to tour then yeah, I'm gonna do that...But that's in the future, I haven't got any plans to do that yet, but fingers crossed."
