A Winthrop man is charged with possessing child pornography. The investigation began after a complaint from police in New Hampshire in regards to conversations with a 12-year-old boy.

Department of Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release that Jon A. Hall, age 20, was arrested on Wednesday at his home on Route 133 in Winthrop. He's charged with possessing sexually explicit material of someone under the age of 12.

The State Police Computer Crimes Unit began investigating Hall in July after receiving a complaint from the Newton, NH police department, who told Maine officials that Hall was having sexually explicit conversations with a 12-year-old boy on a social media site. His computer was seized in July. After it was analyzed, an arrest warrant was issued for him.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Hall was being held at the Kennebec County Jail on $1,500 bail. Winthrop Police aided the State Police and Newton, NH Police in the investigation.
