The National Weather Service on Wednesday extended its winter weather advisory south to include central Penobscot County.

Winter weather is already expected in much of northern Maine, with accumulations reaching up to 12 inches in northern Aroostook County. The new warning issued Wednesday afternoon, includes the towns of Lincoln, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo and calls for between 2 inches and 5 inches of snow in those areas.

The forecast for central Penobscot County calls for snow, sleet and freezing rain from 9 p.m. Wednesday to noon on Thursday.

Here's when the precipitation is expected to begin in certain areas of the state.
