A Winslow man is facing charges after allegedly attacking his grandmother when she refused to call his estranged girlfriend.

Winslow Chief of Police Shawn O'Leary said police were notified on Thursday afternoon of an incident that happened on Wednesday evening. Family members called police out of concern for their 73-year-old mother, Carol Nadeau.

Investigators say Jeffrey Paquette, who is Nadeau's grandson, became angry with her because she refused to call his estranged girlfriend that he cannot have contact with. Paquette is currently out on bail for two separate domestic violence incidents for Terrorizing and Reckless Conduct, and part of his conditions state that he is not to have any contact with the woman. In addition, Paquette was out on probation for a prior domestic violence incident.

After Nadeau refused to make the phone call, Paquette allegedly pushed her to the ground, where she struck her head. Police say he then began punching her in the face, and choked her until she nearly lost consciousness. Paquette took her cell phone and destroyed her house phone, so she couldn't call for help. And when she tried to yell for help, he allegedly covered her nose and mouth. Mrs. Nadeau was later taken to Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, where she was treated, and later released to her family.

Paquette is charged with Domestic Violence aggravated assault, Obstructing the report of a crime, and Violations of conditions of release. He's being held without bail at the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office.
