Maine holds claim to some inspirational, influential and important people. Thrillist.com has compiled a list of the "coolest dude" from each state. The results were based less on popularity or success and more on personal opinion. With that in mind, my guesses were Joshua Chamberlain or Patrick Dempsey for Maine but I should have known who it really is.

Of course it's Stephen King!

Of all the great men, past or present, born or raised in Maine, Stephen King is by far the coolest dude in Maine. Selling more than 350 million copies of his 54 novels and being one of the most well known writers of all time are some of the obvious things that set Stephen King apart. But what makes him the coolest dude in Maine? Not only does King keep his readers hooked and wanting more, but the settings in which his stories take place come to life because of his use of real places for inspiration.
