Rockin' out with the trees y'all!!

Artist Bartholomäus Traubeck has built an awesome record player, except it doesn't play records. What it does play is tree rings...where did he get this idea?

Traubeck's Frankenstein turntable features a PlayStation Eye Camera and a stepper motor attached to the control arm. The camera reads the rings much like a needle reads the groves on a vinyl record.

The camera relay's the ring data to a laptop where music production software (Ableton Live) creates the ire piano track.

Although the turntable is really just interrupting the tree trunk, (rather than playing it) Traubeck says the musical outcome varies with every piece of wood played.
