Bangor Police will hold a public forum this week to talk about pedestrian traffic around the city. A new safety advisory group called 'Walk 'n' Roll' will discuss the challenges faced by non-motorized transit in Bangor. And they want to hear your opinions and concerns!

There has been a lot of discussion recently about folks who travel Bangor by foot or by wheelchair. Crosswalk laws have been a hot topic, with police deciding recently it was time to start enforcing the laws. In a Facebook post, Sergeant Tim Cotton reminded motorists that they have to stop if someone is in a crosswalk. And also reminded pedestrians that they needed to wait until they were sure the oncoming cars were stopped before stepping out into traffic.

On Thursday evening, a Bangor woman was hit while crossing at the intersection of Main and Union Streets. She suffered only a minor injury to her ankle and police say she was in a crosswalk. However, the light was green and the motorist didn't see her in time to stop. Last week, a man was hit on outer Hammond Street and later died of his injuries.

So, Bangor Police want to hear your opinions about what makes walking, biking, or maneuvering a wheelchair around the city difficult. The Walk n' Roll group will work with businesses, city staff, and others to make Bangor a safer place for these folks.

The Walk 'n' Roll public forum will be held on Monday, January 26th from Noon to 1 p.m. in the Bangor City Council Chambers at City Hall. A second session will be held Monday evening at 6 p.m. in the Bangor Police Department. This is your chance to have your voice heard!
