A name change is in the works for two of Maine's heritage TV stations.

For over 60 years, WCSH 6 in Portland and WLBZ 2 in Bangor have been Maine's NBC affiliates owned by the same company. Since the 1970's, both stations newscasts have been called 'News Center."

In 2015, the newscasts out of WLBZ 2 in Bangor were discontinued while keeping a reporting staff at the station, WLBZ 2 would now see the same newscasts and anchors that Portland viewers had seen for years.

Now, in an effort to consolidate their brand, the two stations are in the process of transitioning their name to "News Center Maine."

As of right now the WCSH 6 and WLBZ 2 Facebook pages have been merged into a News Center Maine page. The same will happen soon with their other social media accounts, their websites and newscasts. Android, iOS and Roku apps have also been updated with the News Center Maine name.

The WCSH and WLBZ call letters won't be going away, you just might not see them as much. Other than an updated news set in the works, not much else has changed.
